Be A Better Person

We all sometimes think of becoming a better person saying that starting tomorrow we will try to do that.  At the beginning of a new year you hear lots of people and maybe even you saying “this year I’ll try/want/wish to be a better person”.

But…what does being a better person mean to you? Is it being nice to people around you? Helping them? Is it spending more time with family? with your children? Is it being kind and honest to you? Maybe you want to be a better friend, a better parent or a better sister or brother.

You can always be a better person but it won’t happen over night. You should take some time to look at yourself, to find out who you are, what you dislike about yourself. You have to decide what “a good person” is to you and then, strive to improve and become the person you want to be. Becoming a better person it’s not about transforming yourself into someone you’re not! It’s actually being the real you.  It may not be easy so be patient and don’t give up. Be persistent and keep challenging yourself every day to become the person you want!

I know people who went through some bad times, losing someone dear or some kind of illness which made them open their eyes and become better persons. Now they understand how precious, short and beautiful life is and they try to enjoy it every day. They see life, and they LIVE life! a thing they never did before. They were here but they were not really living.

Don’t wait for a bad thing to change you, decide to make that change today and become a better person.

Good post, thanks. It brings to my mind the Noel Gallagher quote, “It’s never too late to become what you might have been…”. :)

I really dont need a new year plan to change anything. If there is something I want to change, I can try this right now… not after new year. I agree.

peerlesscynic posted a good quote..become what you might have been and then there’s the golden rule “Do to others what you want done to you.” If you believe or not, read or not the Bible…you have to admit that can help you in being a better person. They are wise words, a good rule to follow.

Absolutely! I’m good at learning from my mistakes, but I’m trying to get better at being a better person without having to learn how the hard way :)

I’m reminded of something a friend recently said— “Someone’s past does not define who they are, it’s who they’ve chosen to be today.” —Keith Duane Soules, Jr.

Like you said, changing doesn’t happen overnight, so we need to be patient with ourselves and just take one day at a time and decide who we will be today.
